Hi, tl;dr: Is there a cheap midi hardware that just gets midi information in There is hardware stuff out there. Have a look for "hardware midi filter" or "hardware midi event processor". This one for instance: http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm I have never used any of these so I can't say much more about them.
