just for the record, ardour3 in SVN can now do this. i'm not
suggesting that anyone actually try it out yet, though, and anyway, i
know of no plugins that can do this at present. A good example of this would be using a fast on/off
repeating "note" in midi to gate an existing signal -- to give that
old school rave sound to synths
So instead of using MIDI to do this, you could record an audio track with short signals,
to do the same by an audio side chain ;).
