I think that programs like ecasound are important parts of the linux
audio scene and that it would be a shame to push them away because of
some presumption about whether they are interesting to pros or not.
If pros *aren't* intrested in them, well, maybe they should be.
Pros and semi pros alike, but neither is likely to invest the time when they
have adequate tools they already know how to use.
