.. the timings for the given FFT tests are a near identical "less than
one ms" for both gpu (including transfer time) and cpu up to a size of
64K samples (after which the gpu runs ahead when the cpu hits the
brickwall cache limit ...)
Transfer time for 4096 samples appears to be in the "less than 0.1ms"
range, which I suppose is realtime enough for most people.
Wether transfer times on more humble/crippled hardware would be similar,
basically bound by the PCIe 16x, is an open question though.
