512 is the smallest buffer size the emu10k1 driver will allow in duplex mode.
The hardware can infact go much lower. I have no idea where this limitation
is originating (well yes, it's in alsa, but I don't know how come).

system, this makes a *great* difference.
Yes, I can attest to that too now. Many thanks for the various
tips - the lowest period size I can obtain now with jackstart and
--realtime in duplex with the SBLive is now 512 (which is OK) and
it's pretty stable there.
