broadcast/studio segment, transport over ethernet is already in
use by some manufacturers.
In the segment of large fixed audio installations
(airports,
train stations, cruise ships, etc.) things like Cobranet have
been in use for many years - the savings in wiring costs and
the gain in flexibility are enormous.
And there will be additional savings with the raise of open protocols
for all kinds of media. We have used proprietary interfaces long enough.
