at least that's an area that could be well suited to
linuxaudio.org
what about
http://sounds.resonance.org/ - can we mirror/extend it?
There are various sf2 and .gig resources all over the web, alas most of
'em with a dubious license.
given the recent number of "soundfont" posts to LAU, i concur that
linuxaudio.org should devote some resources on the subject.
That would be great. Josh (the guy behind
) idea is
to make this a good collection of sound-fonts. He's hunting down the people and
ask them to properly licence the files so that they actually can be used :) I
guess thats also where people can help.

I've started a page on our tentative wiki:
http://apps.linuxaudio.org/wiki/soundfonts to collect resources and
gather ideas; feel free to continue discussion on the mailing lists:
convergence of free & open sound-font collections is overdue and we can
use any hand available ;) - even so more when ardour MIDI track newbies
will start to ask for soundfonts in the near future.
