I think, while absolutely true from an engineering aspect, there is
something to be said for /dev/dsp for lowering barriers of entry into
audio programming. Doing experiments like this was how I started doing
it, and it would be a shame to ever remove this option completely.
That's a nice thing to say. I've already planned a primitive synth-sequencer
code for my students using /dev/dsp. But I want to push it further....now
I'm
wondering if some rudimentary form of granular synthesis might be hackable
in pure C + /dev/dsp. Pointers, anyone?
As long as it's making weird sounds, I don't care if its not used or
obsolete.
Still haven't checked out Fluxus yet, Dave....but I will soon.
