I think the fix is even easier: your sources should be corrected in
order to include stdlib.h and not malloc.h, the latter is not stardard.

No ./configure at all, I had to symlink a malloc.h to a place where it could
find it [...]
If you can tell me where malloc.h is on your system and how cpp can
tell it's on OSX I can fix the latter. The former needs a patch, as
I'm unwilling to even touch GNU autoconf.
