FYI. This is already a matter of fact... the GUI communicates with nsmd via
OSC. nsmd can be run without the GUI and controlled via osc (there's a
program included in the distribution called send_osc to allow this kind of
thing to be done via shell scripts).
That's great to know. I also see that CPAN has a couple of
modules for handling OSC.
