It hardly makes their life harder to release specifications for a piece
of hardware, unless you consider emailing a pdf file to be significantly
"harder".
for the hdsp series, RME had *no* written documentation at all except
their existing driver source code. i have come across other h/w
devices where there is no documentation. RME is basically a 2 person
shop on the technical side of things - a h/w guy and a s/w guy who sit
in the same room and go back and forth on "how does this ...", "why
doesn't this ...", "this seems not to ..." etc.
Well then it hardly makes their life harder to divulge said source code
either. :)
(The duplicating hardware issue aside anyway, which I personally think
is bulls***, but that's neither here nor there)
