It's pretty much a regression in the ALSA control part. Unfortunately I
don't have any HDSP devices anymore, so I cannot test it. The ALSA controls for the hdsp(m) series are pretty
much broken anyway.
Irrelevant, it was working before, it is broken now, I presume it can be
fixed so that it works again. Otherwise a lot of boxes out there become
expensive doorstops (not the first this would happen, of course :-)
