Much of this is already done - Gnome provides both a
GUI and CLI
interface to set the default soundcard, System->Preferences->Sound.
is there a backend script available, distro independant? I'd like to
look at it simply for my personal interest. Does it have a name?
It's unfortunate that many apps don't have a
way to configure the
sound device they use.
Indeed it is. OTOH xmms is a very positive example.
