I realize you were asking about OSS. Are you using OSS/Linux or the
deprecated OSS/Free kernel modules ? If you're using OSS/Linux Dev has
told me about their new 'cuckoo' technology that allows OSS/Linux apps
to work in an ALSA environment. I haven't checked how truly 'ALSA-like'
cuckoo may be, but I'll try to test it asap. That might let you do what
you want. Othewise, I think you're not going to be able to utilize
TiMidity as a softsynth outside of an ALSA environment. If I understand
correctly TiMidity will only function as a server under ALSA.
Why are you using OSS instead of ALSA ?
