I agree 100% with the views expressed by Torben.
Today Linux Audio system performance (ALSA or FFADO drivers
and Jack) is *very* good.
If today you have problems with xruns/too much latency/the
whole thing breaking down, that is not due to the system
not being 'hard real time' or failing to do what is expected,
but in almost all cases the result of using applications that
have been designed without any consideration for solid real-
time performance. The only ones to blame are authors of those
apps. Plus those claiming that writing a well-working audio
app is something that can be done by anyone whose has been
reading a few web pages, and those claiming that things should
be as easy as that.
