Plugins really
need to be separated from Interface properly in order
for a cross-platform plugin standard to work properly. Every one of
the existing plugin 'standards' was created in an attempt to solve
this DSP/GUI integration issue, and I think its time the problem went
away with a quick move to XML-based schemes.
Yes. It also makes it practical to run to GUIs remotly, eg rack
hardware <-> PC without any proprietary protocols.
Exactly, this is our thinking on this issue precisely.
The solution to the plugin problem is to separate process from GUI,
and make the processing API standard. Let platforms compete on the
GUI's they implement based on the 'parameter XML' dump that gets read
on init, and away we go ...
SynthEd is a
step in the right direction in this regard, I reckon...
I'm not familiar with
it, but I will be after a google I guess.
