I reckon this would give us what users expect,
completely backwards
compatible, without breaking existing plugins or hosts.

Sounds good to me. Maybe I'd prefer a name like CONTINUOUS_CONTROL to
SIDECHAIN though (although that is also confusing because it applies
to an audio port).
