Double *controls* might actually be useful in some cases, though.
Song position demonstrates the weakness of float, but the question is
if that applies to many other things.
The chache hit makes them very expensive on PIII class chips. Sometimes
they are needed internally (in filter inner loops), but not externally in
my experience.
