I messed with chuck for an hour or two, maybe a year ago, just played with the examples that came with it. Hmm. I might be one of those people that has to learn the hard way, just for my own satisfaction of knowing how things work. In any case, I have the (probably rather naive) beginnings of a 16 track mixer engine working based on one of the portaudio test programs which I hacked up here: http://www.geocities.com/smcameron/sound_trial.c The scaling is a bit odd, I noticed... divides the sums by the number of things summed, which, as that changes as sound clips enter and leave the mix, tends to make it sound like somebody is violently twisting the knobs on a compressor. ANNOUNCE: PHASEX v0.10.0

Announcing the latest release of the Phase Harmonic Advanced Synthesis EXperiment (first release featuring a GUI), available for download (source tarball and FC6 RPMs) at: http://sysex.net/phasex/ PHASEX is an experimental softsynth for Linux/ALSA/JACK systems with a good mix of standard and experimental features. Here's a quick overview of what PHASEX offers: * GTK GUI: Every paramater is available through the GUI, with parameter names right-clickable for on-the-fly MIDI controller mapping and middle-clickable for parameter help. * 4 Osc / 4 LFO: Oscs and LFOs support multiple sources: MIDI key, tempo, envelopes, and inputs, all with selectable unipolar/bipolar scaling. Wavetable includes the basic wave shapes, both bandlimited and non-bandlimited. Per-osc and per-LFO transpose, pitchbend, and init phase. * Modulations: Full AM, FM, and PM (in this case, modulation of phase offset between left and right channels) routing with per-osc controls. Each osc can be modulated by any osc or LFO for AM, FM, of PM. Wave select modulation by LFO modulators is alsa available. * Filter: Modified Chamberlin filter with LP, HP, BP, BS, LP+BP, HP+BP, LP+HP, and BS+BP modes, distortion and retro (clean) types, keyfollow modes, ADSR envelope, and LFO cutoff modulation. * ADSR Envelope: Standard ADSR envelopes for amplifier and filter. * Chorus: Stereo crossover chorus with builtin phaser. * Delay: Stereo crossover delay with LFO modulation capability. * Key Modes: Mono smooth, mono retrigger, mono multikey (round-robin mapping of MIDI keys to individual oscs), and full poly modes are available. * Input Processing: Inputs may be routed to any combination of oscs and LFOs. Input boost allows weaker sources to be brought up to level of oscs. Envelope follower applies input envelope to output. * Sampling Modes: Supports undersampling and oversampling, giving control over the ever present quality vs. CPU tradeoff. Since this is the first public release of PHASEX with a GUI, feedback is highly encouraged. The project goal is to provide a synthesizer to experimental and professional musicians alike that is as easy and enjoyable to use as it is powerful. [ANN] pyliblo 0.5

pyliblo is a Python wrapper for the liblo OSC library. It does not yet wrap all of liblo's functionality, but includes everything you need to send and receive almost any kind of OSC message, using a nice and simple Python API. OSC can hardly get any easier :) Also included are two scripts, send_osc and dump_osc, which are similar to the well known sendOSC/dumpOSC programs, but much simpler and less cumbersome to install. Hello all, I'm looking for some alpha testers for a small application that I wrote to test the DSP core of Aella, the convolution and reverb processor announced at LAC2006. If you are using Jace then Jconv will be familiar as it uses the same configuration files. Candidate alpha testers please drop me a line ! >From the README: Jconv - Alhpa release - for testing only. Jconv is a Convolution Engine for JACK using FFT-based partitioned convolution with multiple partition sizes. It's a command line version of what will be the core of Aella, but without the special reverb feautures, preset management, reverb envelope editing etc. that Aella will have. Jconv uses a configurable smallest partition size at the start of the impulse response, and longer ones further on. This way you can have long impulse responses _and_ minimal or even zero delay at a reasonable CPU load. This would be impossible using just one partition size. Processing for partition sizes larger than Jack's period size is delegated to up to five threads running at real-time priorities just below that of Jack's audio threads. CPU load generated in such threads will _not_ show up in Jack's DSP load figures. If you set the smallest partition size equal to JACK's period, there will be zero processing delay. Otherwise the processing delay is 2 * smallest_partition + period_size. Jconv will do any convolution matrix up to 64 inputs by 64 outputs, as long as your CPU can handle it. It doesn't waste any memory or CPU cycles on empty cells in the matrix, nor on empty parts of an impulse response. Maximum length for each convolution is 30 seconds. Jconv can easily generate 100% CPU load at real-time priority. This will in most cases not stop audio processing, as the load will be at lower priority, but it will lock up everything running at normal priorities such as your terminals or desktop. Don't panic - jconv will detect the situation and bail out after a second or so. -- FA Follie! Follie! Delirio vano è questo !

Ardour transforms any computer running Linux or OS X into a tool to record, edit and mix multi-track audio. You can produce CDs, mix video soundtracks, or just experiment with new ideas about music and sound. JackMiniMix rewrite

Hello I did a rewrite of JackMiniMix. It's now called JackMixDesk has a configurable number of mono/stereo channels, pre and post sends, LASH support, a XML config file and an additional GTK interface which can be started on demand. Im working on a SVG knob widget to make the interface use less ram and I'm planning to implement MIDI support. Writing OSC applications in XUL

Hello, I've created an XPCOM component that wraps LibLo, allowing you to communicate via OSC with JavaScript. It's sort of raw right now, and hasn't yet been ported to Windows or OS X, but doing so shouldn't be too hard. I really don't have time to work on it right now, so I thought I may as well upload it and make it available to other people who might be interested instead of allowing it to accumulate mold in my subversion repository. http://www.music.mcgill.ca/~sinclair/content/blog:communication_between_xul… Anyways, this should allow people to use their SVG/HTML web-design-fu to create nice interfaces to audio applications, PureData patches, among other things.
