However, multimedia streaming still presents several issues with regards to Free Software and open standards: patents on software and data formats, free codecs availability, standards definitions, etc, etc. The goal of this seminar is to provide an overview of existing Free Software for multimedia streaming over Internet, to envisage future developments and collaborations in this area and to examine the possible ways to fund these developments. [linux-audio-dev] Project advice

Hi all, Due to some family problems and lot of pressure at work I have not been able to spend as much time as needed on my audio projects in the last few months. This means that many of them have patch backlogs and TODOs with 6 month old jobs on then and I'm starting to loose track of things. The situation will probably get worse in the next few months. Because of this I'm going to try to move as many projects as reasonable onto sourforge (or similar), so that there is a maling list and bug reporting system where the outstandiing problems can be publicy seen, and that will hopefully be more reliable than my inbox and memory :) Also for the posibility of coding and administration assistance. There are a few questions I have for the community though, so feedback would be helpful: Timemachine - the code is pretty simple, but it needs a couple of fixes - theres a race condition that a friend has agreed to fix, and it needs some way of switching between WAV and W64 files as needed. Its unlikly to grow much bigger though, so I'm not sure it relly needs a proper project. SWH-plugins - this is a biggie. Its a bit of a maintainance nightmare so it should be somewhere other people can get at it, but I'm very tempted to change the name, as it's a bit self publicising - a lot of the effort was contributed by other people, and I dont want to seem like I'm claiming their effort. OTOH, it has quite a lot of "brand recognition" (or whatever the free software equivalent is). Meterbridge - the code is in a state of flux, in the CVS tree I'm halfway though a parallel graphics backed for OpenGL - it decreases the CPU load immensly, and lets you scale meters live, which is very handy, but its a fairly big job, and I dont know OpenGL that well. The question is wether I should wait for the OGL port to be finished before I inflict the code on the world. Liblo - the most common bug report I get is that the name is too short - so maybe that should change :) suggestions welcome, libliteosc seems obvious, but may be not true in the future. Other than that its a good candidate for being inflicted on the world - its actually pretty well documented! I'm most of the way though refactoring the network code to make it less UDP specific, and adding UNIX domain socket support. The libtool stuff is b0rked. I think OSC is important to the future of linux audio, so I always intended to make this a colaborative project once it had enough momentum. Cheers, Steve

[linux-audio-dev] DSSI and GUI

Hi, I'm trying to get DSSI to work for me. I tried with Xsynth and the less trivial example from the DSSI source. As host I tried rosegarden and the example host from DSSI. The plugins load fine, from within rosegarden I can also use them and control/use them to make nice noises, yet the plugin own gui doesn't show in both hosts. Anyone experienced something simular? [linux-audio-dev] How to run 4 instances of music player (Alsaplayer) smoothly ?

Hi, I'd like to include music players in my home automation system. I'd like to run 4 instances of music player - but I want them all to run with sufficient resources - not to do hickups when there is something else on server.... Any advice, help ? Regards, Robert.

Hello LAD, New releases of aeolus, jaaa, and the required shared libs are now available at <http://users.skynet.be/solaris/linuxaudio>. Aeolus: * The AEOLUS_DIR environment variable is no longer used. There is now a command line option -S <directory> to select the stops directory. This permits you to have more than one stops directory (and hence different instruments). Also allows packagers to install the stops in a system-wide place and still allow each user to override this. * You can now have a file named '.aeolusrc' in you home directory to specify default options. All command line options have an equivalent name that can be used in ~/.aeolusrc. See README for more details. Jaaa: * adapted to new library versions, otherwise the same as before. Shared libs: * Now install in /usr/lib and /usr/include instead of /usr/local/*. Please ensure old versions are removed before you make aeolus or jaaa. * clalsadrv: now works again with 'plug' devices. * clthreads: updated to handle modified defaults in 2.6 kernel. Enjoy ! -- FA

[linux-audio-dev] missing fonts in VST plugins

Greetings: A while ago I was mucking around with fonts to work with Finale under WINE. I don't know what I did, but now when I run a VST instrument the fonts have been replaced by little empty squares. If anyone can help I'll provide the details and images to clarify what's happening. I'm hoping it's an easy fix... Best, dp

Hi. I am Paul, the author of the software synthesizer called ZynAddSubFX. I made a pre-release version. Please get it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/zynaddsubfx or http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net News: 2.0.0_pre1 (17 Iul 2004) - Added a new powerful synth engine which is called PADsynth, you can make very beautifull pads and even some strange sounds - Now is used the XML format for all zynaddsubfx parameters(.XMZ for master parameters, .XIZ for instrument parameters and .XSZ for scale parameters).You can import older parameters. All parameters files are compressed with gzip algorithm. - Some parameters has changed and you might ecounter different sounds that you saved in the older versions of zynaddsubfx - The instrument banks are no longer single files, but directories that contains instrument .XIZ files (you can organize them even with a file manager). Also, you can use more than 1 banks easily. - Added a new effect called DynamicFilter that allows you to do WahWah,AutoWah, VocalMorpher and other effects - Speedups - Started to write a small sequencer that allows to load and play a midi file from zynaddsubfx (unfinished) - ZynAddSubFX is available from CVS, too. Please look at the sourceforge project page to get more information ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/zynaddsubfx ) - The waveform generator (OscilGen) has many new parameters :) also if you press the "Shift" key, you can draw the hamonics amplitude/phases - Many user interface improvements - You can load a file at the start of the program with "-l" command-line parameter and you can run zynaddsubfx w/o user interface with "-U" - It is possible to dump all MIDI notes into a text file - The instruments can contain comments and copyright information in order to encourage sharing of them - FFT3W library is supported - More "randomness" options - Other impovements - Many, many bugfixes - Added the full changelog (since I started to write zynaddsubfx), most is in Romanian The documentation for this version is not written.
