There are various sf2 and .gig resources all over the web, alas most of
'em with a dubious license.
given the recent number of "soundfont" posts to LAU, i concur that
linuxaudio.org should devote some resources on the subject.
I've started a page on our tentative wiki:

gather ideas; feel free to continue discussion on the mailing lists:
convergence of free & open sound-font collections is overdue and we can
use any hand available ;) - even so more when ardour MIDI track newbies
will start to ask for soundfonts in the near future.

we won't beat ccmixter etc in inventing rating schemas or compete
with the freesound project..
linux-specific patches, banks, etc, aren't focused on with ccmixter.
at least that's an area that could be well suited to linuxaudio.org
