Jumping the shark means that something, e.g. a serial becomes a bad
seller, like Dallas was, when Bobby was dead :D.
It means to do something outrageous to attract attention
when that is wearing out, and with the only result that
whatever remained of your credibility is lost.

The origin is in the TV series 'Happy days'. When the
audience started to decline the story editors made the
Fonz jump over a shark.
