I'm trying to compile the Teknocomposer software but have run into a
problem that Nick doesn't know what to do about (beyond suggesting I
update my compiler). Here's the failure point:

Hello Dave,
The first thing I do with such ghostly compiler errors, is look out
the preprocessor output. Maybe something is #define'd and messing up
things. To do this, run
c++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -O2 -fno-exceptions \
-fno-check-new -fexceptions -c MainWindow.cxx
with an additions -E flag

some environment variabel to set which one youre using. You have to make
sure that all the C++ it links against is built with the same compiler

But shouldn't this only disturb running or linking the software, and
not the compiling? I had both g++ 2.9x and 3.2 installed in parallel
and when I forgot to "export CXX=something" correctly, I could
compile the software but not run it afterwards.

As best as I can guess (I do have some experience with C++) it has
problems with finding the definition of the class SoundDriver.
That explains why it gets a "parse error before {"
(this is also the
error I get when I compile

I suspect this is the real problem - include the declaration of
AppSoundDriver class somewhere before the first instantiation.
I.e. not forward declare it, but include its header (I suspect
the code from below is not actually MainWindow.cxx, but some other
parts snipped together).

OK, I pulled down the latest release from SF, and I've attached a
patch to get to compile. There is no way any compiler would have
done it, BTW :)
From the toplevel teknocomposer directory:

Many thanks to everyone who replied, and thanks especially to
Jean-Daniel Pauget and Jesse Chappell for the code fixes. I did get it
to compile, and after figuring out what else I needed and where (drum
loops and WAVs) I *almost* got it to run (ti segfaults after setting up
the drums). Well, I see that there's supposed to be a version 0.3 in the
works, I guess I'll wait for that release. At least I know a wee bit
more about debugging C++ apps... ;)
