For USB Sound Pod we understand that many of them do
not run properly
with Linux, and of those that do, some do not transmit enough subtlety
to capture small variations in speech.
Any and all suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

If sound pod equals usb sound card then yeah, quite a few do work fine. There are however
large problems with full duplex, the alsa sound drivers and jack. However these problems
don't happen when just using alsa or using the OSS drivers and a voice recon system
would not use jack. I'm using a griffin imic usb every night with my AKG mic for voice
over internet and it works very well. I don't think the subtlety would be a problem, i
have also used it for recording vocals, drums and guitar and it seems to perform well,
24bit 48khz if required, and quite affordable at 50 euro (what i paid in australia).
