Is there something in the VST SDK licensing agreement
that would
prevent someone from porting the API to Linux?
you are not allowed to redistribute the headers. i suspect that the
files that come with audacity (for example) are a violation of the
license agreement regarding VST. likewise for kjetil's cool
VST-with-wine system.
BTW, i really must release the "jackvst" client, which allows you to
run many VST plugins as standalone JACK clients. they have to have
their own GUI, and they mustn't try to mess with windows at a deep
level. i've tried about 8 that had GUIs, and only 1 of them failed.
