What frequency does PITCH 0.0 correspond to?
I assume this should be a fixed value, as "system finetune" can be
implemented in other ways. No need to have all synths keep track of
yet another parameter to convert PITCH into whatever they need.
440 Hz? :-)
(Who the h*ll came up with the idea that *C* starts the octave!? What
a horrible frequency to remember...)
Nah - I guess we should stick with the conventional "middle C", like
everyone else. I guess most synths and software use 440 Hz for A4 by
default. That's 261.6255653 Hz for C4. Nice value... *heh*

I think that is actually a good way of implementing global tuning. It
would be good to let the host provide the figure and the instruments can
just pick it up. There may be reasons for particular values in particular
hosts or styles. We could recommend Concert A as a default, as thats how
most synths are tuned in my experience.
Modular synth style modules generally ignore the global tuning anyway.
They have there own 0.0v -> Hz mapping, set via a dial.
I dont see any point in specifying it as middle C.

No, anything works. Better have nice values, like 440 and 435.

for a PITCH of +1.0 one octave up, -1.0 one octave down etc.
F[pitched] = F[orig] * (2 ^ PITCH)
or, for those who prefer to specify the number of notes:
PITCH = ((2 ^ (1/12)) ^ note)

way to ensure that global tuning works than having the
sequencers/midi converters skew thier note->pitch outputs.
Yes, but then *everyone* has to implement it. No big deal, probably,
but it's still an extra parameter that (almost) everyone has to deal
with.
