Hello, all.
This is perhaps totally OT, but with all of the recent conversations
about amp-modeling, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers to how
to build a physical, analog, amp-modeling stompbox or similar (or would
it just be cheaper to buy a SansAmp?) Any direction to get started in
this arena would be helpful.

the links paul w posted give a lot of info, one about an
lxh2 marshall/fender simulator (i think, sp?) and the other
about the ibanez tube screamer.
from my spice investigations, i doubt you can get a real
valve sound from solid state electronics, the way it shapes
the signal is quite unique. you probably could do this
with opamps too but the circuit would get complicated enough
to outnoise and outcost a single valve circuit. i may be
wrong though, i'm no EE.

I wonder how the SansAmp does it, then? hmm. maybe I will have to buy
one and take it apart.
