It was intentional, and how stupid it is depends on your perspective.
The whole DVD-A spec is closed, you have to pay some heavey money
just in order to read it. It was put together by people who think
that the CD was the worst thing that ever happened to the music
industry.
We just have to work out the suitable
modification/extension to
the spec. How vdix/dvix format ended up to be a standard in DVD
video players? How mp3-discs in CD player? And how the various
copycontrol systems on CDs?
Because this is all about money, not about the interests of
consumers.
