Last time I checked, Ubuntu/Debian /does/ provide
/etc/init.d/jackd. If you don't have it... check out the
testing/dev versions.
It's disabled by default... so you have to
/etc/default/jackd to get it working.
...not that I agree with doing this, but they do provide it.
