Greetings,
I am aware of PortMixer, which is a simple API that abstracts volume controls.
Is anyone aware of any other crossplatform, cross-API mixer abstraction layers
out there?
AudioScience is looking for/considering building a library that will wrap
ALSA, audioscience HPI, windows WAVE, WDM mixers in a common API.
If such a library doesn't exist, why is that?
1) Too hard
2) Too easy
3) No use
4) other?
I'd welcome your comments.

Conrad Parker's libremix maybe?

Conrad is the author of Sweep, but has been extremely poor at publicing
remix.

Remix is an application library for multitrack/multchannel pcm sequencing
in software; I don't think it's what Eliot's after.

I think Eliot's after a hardware mixer abstraction, ie. something to
abstract away the hardware gain controls etc.
Remix is an application library for multitrack/multchannel pcm sequencing
in software; I don't think it's what Eliot's after.

i think its going to be pretty hard to do this. just consider 3
examples that i am slightly aware of:
a) intel 8x0 style mixer (ac97-ish)
b) audigy2
c) hammerfall dsp
take just the incredible simple task of defining which signal source
recording will use. how is it done?
a) select one of a small number of possible sources
for capture, and set the gain level
b) set the gain level of all possible sources to
zero, except the one desired
c) concept makes no sense.
the first task in defining a cross-API mixer abstraction is to define
what a "mixer" is and what you can do with it.
