Hello. I began work on external plugin browser, which should later be adapted
for other resource types (just like falktx's carla currently does).
For begining i adopted some source files from ladspa-sdk example listplugins
tools, trying to get it only for ladspa. There is one bug, whose reason i
can't understand: it crashes on tap_reflector.so, which is first scanned
plugin from TAP collection.
Crash point is somewhere inside dlopen() call. But if i remove all code and
try specially only dlopen this plugin, check result and exit, it simply
returns NULL result, as on failure, and this is for all TAP plugins (exactly
tried also tap_reverb.so and tap_echo.so); other plugins, e.g. g2reverb.so,
are dlopen()'ed without problem.
As for carla - it discovers and loads TAP plugins. I can't find any
differences in code - tried same flags as it uses (RTLD_NOW | RTLD_LOCAL).
Backtrace of scanning crash (gdb output) is in attachement (too long lines in
email message are automatically wrapped - don't know, is it good to violate
this).

I remember that some plugins crash when you do dlopen
and then dlclose
without instantiating them,
and also if you run instantiate and then cleanup without a
activate+deactivate.
Try to call instantiate, activate, deactivate and cleanup for every
plugin and see if that makes a difference.
PS: Carla runs the plugin discovery in a separate process, so it can
never crash the main program.

Neither of these happens with the TAP plugins here.
If dlopen returns NULL the reason can be as simple as the
.so file not being there - you have to search LADSPA_PATH.
The OP wrote that this happens with his reduced-to-minimum test.
Then if the full test crashes on the same, there must be some
bug in that test code, maybe something from a previous iteration
not being cleaned up.

Do you use x86 system? Maybe your plugs are in usr/lib64/ladspa ?
or your LADSPA_PATH environment variable is wrongly set.
Try to set it:
/export LADSPA_PATH/=/usr/lib/ladspa:/usr/local/lib/ladspa:~/.ladspa
and run sila in the same terminal.

New subject: openAudioProgrammingTutorials::ladspaHostGuiBrowser doesn't see plugins (was: ladspa: dlopen failed for tap ladspa plugins)
All plugins are in /usr/lib/ladspa, and this path is in LADSPA_PATH.
Otherwise all other ladspa hosts should not find anything, but they do.

So then I'm sorry, I'm out of ideas what it could be, as it works here
very well. :-(
One thing you could try is to set the path explicit in sila_browser.cpp
line 457, replace the block
