[PATCH] Add mpage_writepages() scheduling point
From: Jens Axboe <axboe(a)suse.de>
Takashi did some nice latency testing of the current kernel (with -mm
writeback changes), and the biggest offender in general core is
mpage_writepages().
So... humbly asking, is it time yet to make the switch? :-)
I'm running that
patch for 2.6.5 for some time now, but somehow I
cannot do latency_test to get some figures. At least it's stable and
feels good. You should probably upgrade if you're running 2.6.x
anyways. For a switch 2.4 => 2.6 I cannot comment. I run 2.6 since
about two months now and I am very satisfied. I don't really do very
low latency stuff, but it worked very well and stable for my LAConf2
concert.
I thought I had some issues with 2.6.5, but as joq and slinkp(was that
you?) suggested it turned out to be bad ram. I was having random
lockups. Since removing the bad stick I haven't had any problems and I
was doing a good bit of work over the weekend. I can echo Frank's
comment that it feels good, generally. I'll be updating to 2.6.6
tonight. I'm optimistic about 2.6.x overall. But, that's just my gut
feeling and opinion, not any sort of scientific measure.
