So I decided to try reverse engineering a Windows driver yesterday, and
came across this om Microsoft's site. It's a preliminary audio driver
writer's guide for the Longhorn low latency audio system, they call it
WaveRT.
Anyway if it works like they claim, it implies the middle layer is quite
powerful. It's a fascinating read. The really interesting stuff is in
the Word document.

It seems an interface for zero-copy drivers.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, what is the status of linux alsa drivers regarding rt
capabilities?

If Ingo's RT patches and the high res POSIX timers patch get merged then
Linux can provide the kind of deterministic RT scheduling described in
this article right now. Maybe this will light a fire under some
people ;-)

old ISA cards could do this :(
i did some experiments, oh, maybe 4-5 years ago with my wavefront card
using single-sample processing. pretty cool.
