Hello all, yada-yada (*)
The paper submission deadline for LAC2009 is just a little
more than 100 hours away, and the response so far has been
rather disappointing, to the point that there would not be
much of a conference at all.
The deadline could be extended by two weeks (29 Jan, midnight),
but that would make sense only if we know there will be
sufficient submissions.
So if you are planning to submit a paper, or present a
workshop please let me know *ASAP*, and in any case before
the original deadline (15 Jan, midnight).

Hi Fons,
I certainly hope that there will be an LAC this year.
I am still working on the details for the inaugural Linux Audio Awards.
I will be sending out a sponsorship proposal in the next two weeks.
The idea is to present a small number of sponsored awards to the
category winners at the LAC.
I'm also considering doing a couple of presentations but I have not
cleared funding approval for the trip yet.

The 'Spring NAB' as it is generally called in the US is a huge tradeshow that
(among other things) showcases hardware and software products for both radio
and television broadcasters. As such, it typically attracts attendance of
more than 100,000 and is generally a 'must attend' event for those whose
livings are derived from the technical side of broadcasting in North America.
Unfortunately, the result of this conflict has been to make it impossible for
me to attend any of the LAC sessions over the years; the need to pay my
mortgage trumps even my desire to help extend the state of the art of the LAD
community. Thus, may I respectfully request that future LAC conferences be
scheduled at some other time?

Yes, if you are in the USA and active in broadcasting
you can't ignore the Spring NAB. OTOH, the majority of
LAC participants are European, and we have the Frankfurt
Musikmesse at the start of April, and the AES conference
usually at the start of May...
The LACs in Karlsruhe indeed were all mid April, as will
be the next one, but last year's was end of February, and
IIRC Berlin was in March.
Maybe next year's organisers will take note...
Since your application is quite unique, it would
be good to have you at the conference.
