Hi all,
Does anyone else get clicks which occur continuously after getting a
single xrun in jack? (i.e no further xruns are reported, but the audio is
crackling).
I'm setting up an art installation which has to run for hours on end
without intervention, and this seems to be happening after some time
(running jack in realtime mode). I'm using a stock kernel in OpenSuse -
would it help to use a lowlatency one? The audio doesn't need lowlat - I'm
using a buffer size of 1024.
I don't care about the odd xrun - as long as the audio goes back to normal
afterwards, any help gratefully received. This is running in my own
software so there is more than a chance it's something I'm doing wrong.

Dave, when I've seen this before its generally been a hardware issue,
typically something stealing the PCI bus for too long. However, if the
same thing doesn't happen with, say, aplay, then there is more
investigation to be done. Step one would be to run aplay with the -v
command, and then use the info to set up JACK with identical h/w
parameters.

Ok, I have some better information now...
aplay works fine - no glitches
jack with the same parameters - testing with jack_metro to get my stuff
out of the loop, glitches.
This is on a ALC888 - which has surround support with 8 output channels
(which I don't actually need).
The glitches only happen when there is a signal - and sounds to me like
something is being set to 0 at the beginning/end of the buffer (the
frequency changes if I change the buffer size).

Since you are running unattended for hours, I assume that your
appliction does not really need a grapic userinterface hanging around.
Over in the CUDA land I am currently investigating, it sometimes helps
(a lot) to start daemon-like applications from the console rather than
an Xterm.
Give it a try?

The audio isn't super intensive, a handful of synth units and some sample
playback, but (now it's fixed) it works nicely alongside fluxus.

Since you are running unattended for hours, I assume that your
appliction does not really need a grapic userinterface hanging around.
