Its not my intention to blame Linux or the Linux-Community but it is
in consequence the only way to prevent such postings in the future.
As such postings are not good for Linux in general... I still have
the partly strange postings about "reborn" in mind... I came to the
conclusion that leaving would cause less damage.
Anyway I am still on this list...;)

No problem, I canceled any support for Linux from now until ever.

Hi Stefan :
You would let one person's opinion deny the rest of us the pleasure of
your software ? Doesn't really seem fair ...
Sometimes I think we should rename the list "Developers of Linux sound
and music software that may or may not be free, might or might not
include source code, be licensed under a libre or non-libre license or
maybe not licensed at all"... but the acronym is just too difficult to
pronounce... At least it would have a clarifying effect.

exactly. a quick reminder: above all the rights of freedom that we
hold so dearly, there is this one: s/he who writes the code gets to
choose the license, and if you don't like it, shut the fsck up and
don't use it.
imnsho, if there's one thing that's more counterproductive than
closed source, it's pointless whining and bitching.
sure, i would like to see the source too, and i don't understand why
stefan does not go open source, but pissing people off is certainly
not the way to proceed here.
it is the author's decision, and everybody *has*to*respect*it*!
don't preach freedom and deny others their freedom of choice. we've
had enough of this bigotry lately.

You are welcome to your opinion, and you are free to voice it here,
there and everywhere. But with freedom comes ... you guessed it,
responsibility. Responsibility to respect others and others' work.
Calling someone's work "garbage" doesn't sound like respect to me. If
I call you a "moronic lump of turd", and then defend my saying this
with "well, I do personally consider Dave to *be* a moronic lump of
turd", have I dispensed with my responsibilities to be civil and
respectful? I have not (and for the record, I do not have anything
like that opinion!) - quite the contrary I have failed miserably. If I
say "I think Dave made a mistake in releasing his code", am I closer
to behaving in a civic and responsible fashion? I think I would be.
Whatever you may think of Stefan's work, you have a responsibility to
respect his (and everybody else's) effort and choices. You can
tell us you don't like them, but you do not need to, nor should you,
tell us that they are "garbage". That isn't an opinion, its just a
disrespectful and unnecessary piece of labelling that we can all live
without.

- Proprietary software is, in general garbage, to me.
- Thus, I find it annoying to accidentally download what is completely

- RTSynth and Digeridoo are examples of software where this situation
occurred.
On a quality-of-software basis, quite the opposite is true. The reason
that situation is so annoying to me is I was genuinely interested in the
software (ie I really wanted to see just how a digeridoo was simulated,
and was excited at the possibilities, musically and code-wise).
If I thought the software itself was "garbage", I wouldn't care about my
inability to use/see it. So the fact that I'm disappointed in the fact
it's proprietary if anything implies that I think the software is
somewhat cool.
I sincerely didn't even consider this "your software = crap"
interpretation. I don't make it a habit of anonymously flaming people's
projects in public forums.
So please, end of thread. I apologize for my lack of proofreading (but
not my views)

As someone who has spent a large amount of time contributing LGPL and
GPL licensed code I don't agree with your decision but I do recognise
that it is your decision to make.
I would however be interested in how you came to your decision to
keep your source code closed. Care to enighten us?

It would seem to me that your behavior will *encourage* such postings in
the future. The message you seem to be sending is:
"Proprietary software will go away if you insult it on the list."
Why wouldn't people who are opposed to proprietary software be *more*
inclined to post such messages now?
