Hi all,
has anyone compiled the LADSPA sdk for Mac OS X? I expect lots of
people have, and that it's very easy..!
In the src directory, I type make and get this:
ld: unknown flag: -shared
The targets in the makefile are:
../plugins/%.so: plugins/%.c ladspa.h
$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -o plugins/$*.o -c plugins/$*.c
$(LD) -o ../plugins/$*.so plugins/$*.o -shared
../plugins/%.so: plugins/%.cpp ladspa.h
$(CPP) $(CXXFLAGS) -o plugins/$*.o -c plugins/$*.cpp
$(CPP) -o ../plugins/$*.so plugins/$*.o -shared
So I guess ld is different on OS X, and looking at the ld man page, I
guess maybe I need -dylib instead:
../plugins/%.so: plugins/%.c ladspa.h

$(LD) -o ../plugins/$*.so plugins/$*.o -dylib
../plugins/%.so: plugins/%.cpp ladspa.h

$(CPP) -o ../plugins/$*.so plugins/$*.o -dylib
But now I get this error:
ld: plugins/amp.o illegal undefined reference for multi module
MH_DYLIB output file to symbol: dyld_stub_binding_helper from section
(__DATA,__la_symbol_ptr) relocation entry: 0
and that's where I give up! But I guess there's a solution which is
obvious to anyone who knows about dynamic libraries on a Mac?

I believe that you need to use the following CFLAGS:
-fno-common -flat_namespace -bundle -undefined suppress -lbundle1.o
I've not tried them, but a couple of people have reported sucessfully
building my plugins with the flags, you can get them automatically by doing
./configure --enable-darwin
before building

is that bundle1.o a placeholder i should replace with the name of a
specific .o file? i'm guessing not.
anyway, i tried these combinations of CFLAGS (one is the original plus
the ones you suggest, the other is just $(INCLUDES) plus the ones you
suggest):
CFLAGS = $(INCLUDES) -Wall -Werror -O3 -fPIC -fno-common
-flat_namespace -bundle -undefined suppress -lbundle1.o
CFLAGS = $(INCLUDES) -fno-common -flat_namespace -bundle -undefined
suppress -lbundle1.o
and both give the same error (though the cc command printed by make
looks different of course):
[~/dev/ladspa_sdk/src] $ make
cc -I. -fno-common -flat_namespace -bundle -undefined suppress
-lbundle1.o -o plugins/amp.o -c plugins/amp.c
cc: -lbundle1.o: linker input file unused because linking not done
ld -o ../plugins/amp.so plugins/amp.o -shared

as you know, the LADSPA sdk doesn't come with a configure script which
would generate the right compilation flags. but i'll look at the
configure script in your plugin package and (if i can understand it!)
maybe it'll give me what i need... thanks again.

Hi Taybin,
the installer works fine here! Very nice. (I need to be able to
compile plugins and a host by hand though ;)
For the record, I got most of the sdk to compile after some
experimentation with flags. The listplugins program still fails to
compile, with this error:
cc -I. -I/usr/include/ppc -Wall -Werror -O3 -fPIC -c -o search.o search.c
In file included from search.c:14:
/usr/include/unistd.h:236: error: parse error before '*' token
make: *** [search.o] Error 1
When the compiler reports parse errors in the standard library, that's
when I give up!
But the plugins and the applyplugin and analyseplugin programs are
working fine, and the make test target works after editing out the
listplugin line, and changing 'play' to 'sndfile-play'. Next up, DSSI!
