I've been thinking about the same thing. Specifically I wanted to try and
use an OCZ NIA for drum input into hydrogen. I've seen a few videos of them
people demoing the unit, but don't personally know anyone that's tried one.
There is no linux support afik either for them. I'd be interested if you
make any progress to hear about it.

New subject: Mind control hardware/software for Audio
The OCZ NIA (without any drivers) reports itself
in /proc/bus/input/devices as a standard HID (Human Interface Device),
after which it starts sending a steady stream of sensor-data, formatted
as a binary struct input_event (see linux/input.h)
Now then what sensor is supposed to be connected to what is another
matter, but I suppose that if you try one out you will be able to figure
out what is going on ...

Maybe as a group it would be more interesting and creative?

I'm seeing it now.
Think of a conductor moving the baton.
The speed of the baton and maybe the direction could set the tempo. The
thought sets the sample. Stamp your foot to change to a different sample
etc...
Would look like one of those dancing policemen directing traffic.

I'm also wondering about the software. I'm sure they are already working
on it but it would be useful to have self learning software which could
quickly adapt to signals from the brain and learn to do what you wanted
it to do over time. You would need a very strong signal for cancel so if
it chose a sample or action that you weren't intending then you could
cancel it and it would provide some options for what you really wanted
to do. Then it would store that reference for future use so that you
could effectively compose your samples in advance.
I guess the biggest problem for live use will be people distracting you
by asking you to play their requests etc... That could really screw up a
set.

He would of course let the lady's unsuspecting boyfriend wear the stupid
headset for a while, and then sneaker off with her back to the motel,
no?
Unlike horns, guitarist and vocals up front, drummers have a real hard
time getting physical with the audience during the performance.
