Well, maybe you could use one of these pitch tracking band-pass
filters, or whatever it is the birds have?

I dont fancy trying to wedge a mic and spark gap generator down a birds
throat ;)
I did try making an exciter with a cebychev(sp?) polynonial, but it
didn't work very well. Theres one in snd, but thats chebychev based IIRC.

BTW: I ported the glame highpass, lowpass, bandpass, bandpass analog
filters (all chebyshev based IIR) to
swh-plugins. And as a bonus I added a notch filter. The framework for
the IIR is also usable by other
plugins and it's so generic that you can use it for FIR as well.
So watch out for the next swh-plugins release and have fun.
