In the spirit of "release early, release often," I am pleased to
announce the release of Composite 0.006. This release marks the
completion of the LV2 Sampler Plugin, which supports Hydrogen drum
kits.
STATUS
------
Composite is a project with a large vision. Here is the status of the
different components:
composite-gui: Alpha (i.e. "a broken version of Hydrogen")
compoiste_sampler (LV2): production/stable, no GUI
libTritium: Not a public API, yet.

HOW TO USE THE PLUGIN
---------------------
To use the plugin, you need the following:
* A program (host) that loads LV2 plugins.
* A MIDI controller.
* An audio output device. :-)
The following LV2 hosts are known to work with this plugin:
Ingen http://drobilla.net/blog/software/ingen/
lv2_jack_host http://drobilla.net/software/slv2/
The following is known to _not_ work:
zynjacku (Uses a different MIDI port type)
If you don't have a hardware MIDI controller, I suggest using
jack-keyboard (http://jack-keyboard.sourceforge.net/).
The first time you run the sampler, it will create a file
~/.composite/data/presets/default.xml, which will set up presets on
Bank 0 for the two default drum kits (GMkit and TR808EmulationKit).
Sending MIDI PC 0 and PC 1 will switch between the two kits. See
composite_sampler(1) for more information on setting up presets.

Wow :) one of the things on top of my wish list is Hydrogen without it's
own sequencer, resp. Hydrogen as a plugin. I guess I consistently will
test it from git, unfortunately not today. Thanx, sounds very

Good question. I often hear on LAD and LAU:

a bank of sound clips from "The Simpons" rather

AFAIK, there is nothing (except /maybe/ linuxsampler +
gigedit) that currently meets this need. If you can name
some others, please do.
Composite needs a sampler like this as a core part of the
application. I can't use linuxsampler because I disagree
with its license. So, I've been refactoring Hydrogen's
sampler to meet Composite's needs... and I'm doing it in a
way so that other people can benefit even if they don't want
to use Composite.
And this literally benefits everyone, no matter what your
DSP design philosophy: everything-as-a-plugin (LV2), "the
modular way" (lv2_jack_host), and monolithic apps
(libTritium).

Linuxsampler supports several plugin standards, amongst them
VST,AU,DSSI,LV2 therefore LinuxSampler can run as a plugin under any
host which supports one of
the mentioned standards.
The editor of Linuxsampler (gigedit) can edit any aspect of a .GIG
sample. If you want to edit the raw sample data of single samples
then you need to use an external editor.
PS: there is now experimental SoundFont2 and SFZ support in LinuxSampler CVS.

Has anybody information about defects known for Roland HiHat
controllers? The drummer who ask me to repair it seems to have a FD-8.
It should be fine when it's opened and perhaps half opened, but the
sound should be to silent when it's closed. He fumble around at the
female jack and for a moment it should have been ok, in his opinion this
should be the reason why the sound module should be ok. I'm sceptic
because of his description. Perhaps he is at home now, then I will take
a look. Any hints are welcome! Maybe it's a well known defect.
