Hello,
I have recently bought the ice1712-based DSP2000 C-PORT from Hoontech and
I'm really satisfied with it. I only have a little problem: MIDI!
The card has 1 MIDI in and 2 MIDI out, and the 2 outs are working fine.
However, I can't get anything from MIDI in :-(
Anyone has that card and can confirm this problem or I have to check my
hardware? Maybe ALSA get confused? With aconnect I see 2 devices (0 and 32)
both as inputs and as outputs...
I've tried on the staudio.com forum and they suggest to test the card under
windows, but (ehm..) I don't have it...
Any suggestions?
TIA

hello,
I have jack installed and working now. So, now I'm trying to get
AlsaModularSynth compiled and running. Has anyone else accomplished this
in debian stable (woody)?
I installed libqt3-mt (along w/everything it depended upon), fftw-dev,
fftw2, sfftw-dev, sfftw2 and ladspa-sdk to get ladspa.h. I've tried to
edit the top of make_ams to agree with the location of the qt3 libs, bin
and include directories on my system as best as I could figure ... but
I'm not sure I got it right:
QT_LIB_DIR=/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/styles
QT_BIN_DIR=/usr/share/qt/bin
QT_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/qt
it seems to compile OK when I do:
make -f make_ams
though there are a lot of warnings about comparing signed to unsigned
and other warnings that flew by. Are these benign?
Anyway. I end up with an executable ams. When I run ./ams I get this:
./ams: error while loading shared libraries: libjack.so.0: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
I have that in /usr/local/lib/libjack.so.0 so creating this link appears
to help:
box1:/usr/lib# ln -s /usr/local/lib/libjack.so.0 libjack.so.0
Is that the correct sollution?
but, now:
box1:/home/eric/audio_code/ams-1.5.5# ./ams
ams: cannot connect to X server
I assume this is because X is running as me (eric) and not as root. I'll
try getting out of X and starting it as root as soon as I finish writing
this message. But, is there a way to let root connect to the X server
that's running as eric?
I was sort of ok (well, not really, but I'm giving it a try) with the
idea of running jackd and its clients as root ... but, running X as
root, too? that makes me more nervous, somehow... maybe I shouldn't be
nervous about that ... I'm not sure.
anyway. i'll give it a shot with a root X session.
I'm thinking that maybe I should patch and recompile the kernel and
recompile jack to enable capabilities so I don't have to run as root.
Do those of you running jackd as root also run your X session as root?
Thanks for listening,
Eric Rz.
PS If all of this has been covered before and my questions are annoying
you, feel free to send me to the archives. I try to follow jackit-devel,
but most of it seemed to go over my head before I actually started to
try it. So, re-reading the past couple months would probably do me some
good now that I have the real thing in front of me. -edrz

Hi all!
I've been trying to stretch a soundfile. It is a piano track with mostly two
voices only. I did it with an fft plain phase vocoder. Now there are a lot of
parameters and I got some undesireable delay. In general the stretched sound
was good, but the delay is disturbing. So here's the question, how should I
set the following parameters to get the best result?
fft-length (as high as possible?), windows per second, window length,
windowtype (hamming, triangular, kasier with several coeffecients).
Any ideas or practical experience with that? - I'm NOT doing it in realtime,
so CPU-time is no problem. I've got time! :-)
Thanbks for any help or good ideas!
Kindest regards
Julien

Hi List,
I want to record in 7200 frequency, 8bit, mono. Well the specs may seem
strange but we have a HardWare which understands voice files only with these
specs.
I have 2.4.18-3 linux kernel.
I have intel 810E chipset, with builtin audio card.
lspci returns
<lspci>
Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA AC'97 Audio (rev 02)
</lspci>
I too have Sound Blaster Live.
lspci returns
<lspci>
Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 08)
Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port
</lspci>
And we use xwave and soundstudio for recording.
And i have intel audio card under alsa.
Intel Audio Card:
I could record properly in 16 bit, but when i record in 8 bit it gives lot
of noise. I dont know from where it comes.
Sound Blaster Live:
I could record in given specs, but when i play back the bass gets
increased. I mean it dosen't seem to be the same voice anymore.
Can anybody help me.
TIA.
bye.
uday.

Hello. I got following when I used mpg321 (/usr/bin/mpg123) on
file "www.modular2003.com/sounds/DirectHammond.mp3":
Title : Lazy (excerpt) Artist: Deep Purple
Album : Year : 2001
Comment: 100No such file or directoryade with Csoun softsynth
Genre : Hard Rock
What is that "100No such file or directory"??!! The end of mp3 file
looks following:
TAGLazy (excerpt)
Deep Purple
2001100% made with Csoun softsynthO
For what that feature can be used? Are my own files in danger?
mpg123 gives following version numbers:
mpg321 version 0.2.9. Copyright (C) 2001, 2002 Joe Drew.
Version 0.59q (2002/03/23). Written and copyrights by Joe Drew.

Hi all!
I used to play MIDI with AWE-64 with 24 MB RAM extention.
So I could use the SF2 soundfonts.
Unfortunately, the AWE-64 requires an EISA slot.
Could please enybody recommend a PCI successor of the
AWE64 which allows loading of SF2 soundfonts.
Please do not recommend Audigy! This is a lie! The
Audigy ALSA driver accidentally drops some
tones. This is a known bug, but
apparently nobody is willing to fix this
See.
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Creative+…
Furthermore it ignores reverbation and
chorus instructions.
Please do not recommend FluidSynth. To avoid
misundersandings: Actually FluidSynth is a good
software. But it produces wrog envelopes for
strings and clarinets. The envelops are
like xylophone (or so ...)
I alreay mentioned this problem on this list.
But without success.

I am looking for a good laptop solution, to develop on,
but I would also like to be able to do audio work on it.
What laptops do you use if you have one ?

Specimen is a midi controlled sampler, and it's very first public
release is available from http://www.gazuga.net/specimen.tar.gz
In all honesty, I advise against downloading this in it's current
state unless you intend to hack on it or play with it for sheer
amusement value only. There are a few TODO items that must be taken
care of before this can be considered usable software (as the next
release will be). The main reason for this release is because I said
I was going to make a release in a couple of weeks 15 days ago.
It's very nascent stuff.
You have been warned.
