Steinway_IMIS2.2 soundfont (no loops fix)

This is Steinway_IMIS soundfont, version 2.2. ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/sf2/Steinway_IMIS2.2 This version fixes the issue with loops. I hope this is the good one and there are no more remaining major bugs. Marcos is a little busy right now, so he asked me to make this fix. He is thinking to make other improvements, so expect more updates soon.

M-Audio Fast Track Pro: unreliable, distorted recording

I'm the (un?)lucky owner of an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB audio interface and I'm having some serious problems getting this device to record audio reliably under Linux. I've been using arecord and occasionally Audacity for all of my testing. My problem is this: Recording a take works about 80% of the time. In the remaining ~20% of cases, the captured audio is extremely loud with severe digital distortion. Once this problem shows up, it persists for any subsequent takes. The only way I've found to make the problem go away, at least temporarily, is to power-cycle the Fast Track Pro. I considered the possibility that this particular device might be defective, but it seems to work wonderfully under Windows. I'm calling out to other Fast Track Pro users in the hope that someone out there has encountered the same problem and better still, found a solution. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated! .lewis

[linux-audio-user] Sub-harmonic generator? (LADSPA or VST)

Hello, Does anyone know of a good plugin that will generate subharmonics? I would like to put a little more low frequency "oomph" into my bass track. Preferrable LADSPA, but VST would work, too. Thanks for any help! -TimH

Alternative FluidSynth GUI?

Research tells me that QSynth seems to be the only currently available/usable GUI for FluidSynth, but I get big xruns whenever I try and use it. FluidSynth itself doesn't cause me problems (I know because I'm able to use the FluidSynth-DSSI plugin fine in Rosegarden etc). The problem is that I want to use FluidSynth with Ardour3, but Ardour3 doesn't support DSSI plugins yet. So the only solution I have is to find a standalone interface for FluidSynth and then to link up using Jack. I looked at the old GUI 'FluidGUI' but it seems to be so old that it won't properly install on recent versions of Ubuntu. So does anyone know of: 1) A GUI for FluidSynth other than QSynth and FluidGUI?... or 2) An application other than the above 2 which would allow me to load soundfonts? Thanks in advance. - Dan

OT? Downloaded youtube videos with subtitles

I was very excited to find a video of the complete Tristan and Isolde on YouTube recently, complete with English subtitles. I used the youtube-dl utility to grab the video, but when I began playing the copy on my hard-drive with totem, to my horror, the English subtitles were not there! To repeat, the subtitles are on youtube.com but not in the .webm file that I downloaded with youtube-dl. Can someone coach me how to download a version with the English subtitles? Or are there subtitles in my downloaded version and totem is just not playing them? Thank you for your help. P.S. On the totem menu under View, there is a command called Subtitles but this prompts me for another file. Is there a subtitle file in addition to the video file that I need to download from youtube? Thanks again.

Hi all! I found this old discussion about the Zoom R16 in the archive of LAU. http://linuxaudio.org/mailarchive/lau/2012/3/14/188926 Strangely, in that archive there is a missing reply from Mr. Brett McCoy. (You can find the missing one a the bottom of this archive: http://linux-audio.4202.n7.nabble.com/Zoom-R16-td7748.html ) Mr. McCoy claims to have enabled the Zoom R8 (yes, there is quite a difference between r16 and r8) as a multi-input soundcard for ardour and also as a control surface in 12.04 64bits. There is no information as to which driver is being in use in his post. And searching the web only leads me to various WIP to get the R16 running on linux. My question is, has anyone got any news about this device and a possible drivers? Specifically to Mr. Brett McCoy: what driver did you use to make jack aware of your r8? Sound Devices USBPre2, UAC2 status

Hi, Some old posts exist about the UAC2 support for the Sound Devices USBPre2 but some problem remains. The current status is that this sound card is supported as a USB 1.1 card in high-speed mode. But this card is not seen as a Usb Audio Class 2 on Linux. On Mac OS X this card is recognized as UAC2. My principal problem is that the "device descriptor" provided by the card is always a USB1.1 class There is two modes of boot for the card (pressing the "1" button, the card is in full speed mode, without pressing in UAC2 mode) There is only one difference between these two modes in the lsusb -v : the "bInterval" go to 4 from 1. Desktop whole-screen audio/video recording

I've just been taking a look at the user guide for RecordMyDesktop, which looks very simple and easy to use (has jack support). Does anyone have any experience of using this? Is there an equally easy way to add captions later? How about making a copy suitable for youtube? Should I be using something completely different? Progress! I compiled JACK2 (64-bit, and also a 32-bit version because Dssi-VST Git needs it) and Dssi-VST Git. I put "$HOME/vst" in my "$VST_PATH" and made a symlink to "Kontakt 5.dll" as "$HOME/vst/kontakt5.dll" because Jack-dssi-host doesn't seem to like spaces in plugin filenames (quoting or escaping didn't work). I started JACK, then loaded the VST through Jack-dssi-host. $ jack-dssi-host dssi-vst.so:kontakt5.dll& Kontakt's VST loaded fine. A lot of JACK ports appeared (64 ports! O_O), automatically connected to "system:playback_*". I connected the Kontakt's JACK MIDI port to my keyboard's, and chose a freeware instrument (just for testing) from Kontakt's "Files" tab. It loaded as it should, and playing my keyboard produced the sounds just fine! Yes! I could even record the output by using Ecasound! ... However, I didn't have the same luck with the Friedlander Violin... Choosing an instrument from the "Files" tab doesn't work because it's encrypted and needs to be activated. It's a "Powered by Kontakt Player" instrument, and the option to activate it doesn't appear unless it's loaded through the "Add Library" button first. The problem is that when I try to "Add Library", Kontakt prompts me to choose the location where the library is installed, and when I select the directory, it gives me a "No library found" error. I'm sure I'm pointing to the right place (the directory containing the "Instruments" and "Samples" sub directories, the ".nkr" and the ".nicnt" files). Just to make sure, I followed exactly the same steps on Windows and the library loaded with no problems (but I didn't activate it because I want to do it on Linux!), though it was the standalone version instead of the VST. I hope this doesn't mean that adding libraries only work on the standalone interface, because on Wine I still can't get past the initial audio setup screen... Any ideas? QMidiArp-0.5.2 released

Hi, QMidiArp 0.5.2 has just seen the light of the day. It brings mainly two improvements. One is a comeback, that of tempo changes on the fly, and that now includes also tempo changes of a potential Jack Transport master. Also the Jack Transport starting position is finally taken into account, so that QMidiArp should be in sync also when starting the transport master not at zero. The second one is Non Session Manager support, mainly thanks to the work done by Roy Vegard Ovesen! Note that for compiling in NSM support you will now need liblo as dependency.
