I came across some posts about gdam when I was looking for a Linux
alternative to Ableton's Live. Some of the posts talked about time
stretching, but I can't remember if gdam has time stretching
capabilities or not. Website: http://gdam.ffem.org/
Does Csound offer time stretching?

I'm not sure exactly where to send something like this.
I'm building a new box for audio work. I let an scp of my 41G of audio
files from my old box to the new one run over night. The transfer took
just under 10 hours and failed on the last few files like this:
warning: Cannot open destination file
192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/pool/rasox4/rt4b3.wav
warning: Cannot open destination file
192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/pool/rasox4/rt4b4.wav
warning: Creating destination directory "/mnt/audio/test" failed.(status
= 7)
warning: Cannot open destination file 192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/test/t0.wav
warning: Cannot open destination file
192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/test/foo.wav
warning: Cannot open destination file
192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/test/foo2.wav
warning: Cannot open destination file
192.168.1.9:/mnt/audio/test/foo3.wav
The new box is locked up hard, no keyboard reaction at all, not even
alt-sysrq.
There is a call trace on the screen which I have typed out (and double
checked):

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
ERic Rz.
Noticed these on the Debian package list.
1. What is their purpose?
2. What modules are included?
3. Specifically, aside from alsa stuff, jbd and ext3? (I have been trying to
make an initrd to get my ext3 file system working as such to no avail.)
4. Will alsa run without these initrds?

it's not working on my system (i tried 64, 128, 256) ... but playing
with the different settings, i figured out, that i can't change the
number of periods in the hardware buffer ... it's always 2 times the
number of frames per period ...
jack returns as error message:
ALSA: cannot set number of periods to 1 for capture
ALSA: cannot configure playback channel
cannot load driver module alsa
is it possible that this is the problem? i don't understand how the
driver works but if the hardware buffer always gets one block instead of
two and plays it back the whole hardware buffer the samples would be
late ...
on the other hand the distortion i hear is not related to the block
size... (btw, i tried to record a sound ... that works fine ...)
nearly giving up the hope ...

I also have this card. Perfectly good, if old and no longer supported, and I
demand the chunky breakout box!
Yes, that OSS AGOPO/Maestro driver will modprobe, but is uncomplainingly
silent.
No, the ess1948 and others will not install correctly.
Alsa recommends the cs46xx driver for this card.
No, this will not install because the AGOPO/Maestro identification will block
it!!
I will gladly test or help however I can.
I am running Debian 2.4.22 from a Knoppix 3.3 installation on a PIII system.
Hi. The easiest way to do Acid kind of stuff in Linux is to chop up some loops
in Ardour, and then use the drag time stretchy tool in ardour to drag them to
bar/beat or as long as you like. It works quite nicely.
(Btw, I think a glass of good Wine is improved by being slightly Acid. :)
This card has an ESS Maestro-1 (a.k.a AGOGO / es1948) APU.
But unlike the consumer cards (which use a low quality ac'97 codec) this
card uses nicer CS4222 codecs for better sound. The current drivers only
work in conjunction with an ac'97 codec.
There is no driver for this currently, but I am working on one, although
it will be my first soundcard driver :)

If anyone has any info that could help me out, I'd be grateful.
Does anyone have data sheets for the es1948?

i got the response from rme's support that there is something wrong with
the sample frequency ... but they doubt that it's a problem of the card
itself ...
there are two possibilities then ... it's either a problem on the alsa
side or on the cardbus/pci side ...
btw, playing with the settings of hdspconf the distortion seems to be
related to the spdif out _emphasis_ option ... it seems to sound softer
... i'll try to create a sample/screen shot of it tomorrow... is this
option somehow related to the sample clock?
take care...

Is there a loop based editor similar to Sonic Foundry's Acid either in
existance or under development? What I'm looking for is Acid's ability
to stretch/compress loops depending on the metronome therefore being
able to take any loop and use it to any metronome speed. I read Acid is
a failure under wine.
Thanks.
