Hi,
I want to use the JACK soundserver. I'm able to connect to the normal analog
output but not to spdif.
I use the snd-intel8x0 driver for my onboard nforce2 soundchip.
> ash-2.05b# cat /proc/asound/devices
> 1: : sequencer
> 0: [0- 0]: ctl
> 18: [0- 2]: digital audio playback
> 25: [0- 1]: digital audio capture
> 16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback
> 24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture
> 33: : timer
> bash-2.05b#
Using the alsa output plugin in xmms I can choose hw:0,2 then the sound comes
out through spdif, but I don't know how to do this with JACK.
I tried qjackctl (grafical controller for JACK and ALSA) and qjackconnect
(grafical patchbay) and via console by typing 'jackd -d alsa -d hw:0,2' (same
with hw:1 and hw:2) but this doesn't work, neither as user nor as root.
via console I get the following output:
> ash-2.05b$ jackd -d alsa -d hw:1 -S
>
> jackd 0.98.1

qjackctl displays following errors:
> 13:16:14.915 /usr/bin/jackd -R -dalsa -dhw:0,2 -r48000 -p1024 -n2 -S -i2

Is there some special configuration needed in '/etc/asound.conf'
Please help me, if it works I want to write a howto in the gentoo user forum
cause there is to little information about JACK and JACK is definitly a great
leap forward considering the sound quality.

Wi....s is like a frozen turd in winter.
You can't excactly see what it is,
but when you take it home to check it up
its malodor blurts out it's true nature.
Dear all,
Roland UA-100 plugged into PC, usbview detects interface.
aplay -l doesn't report any knowledge of the device.
I believe I have loaded the appropriate modules, snd-usb-audio but the
system resolutely refuses to make music as it has before. I would
include the appropriate modules.conf files to show but this E-mailing
machine and the linux box are not connected and I feel cross reading
would be a little error strewn.
Can anyone outline a procedure for checking at which point a problem
might occur and, if possible, a list of command line utilities that can
reveal precisely what components are loaded. Is it possible to load
modules incompletly such that a component identifies it's presence but
isn't actual functioning. If this is so how does one check the dependancies?
I understand that amix and alsamixer won't recognise the presence of a
USB connected audio interface, is this the case?
Any help appreciated.
Chris Lyon
Hi,
planetccrmaFC1 uses alsa ??? If yes, then run alsamixer and set "Line
In" volume and "Analog Mix" volume. Do not use Mic In as Line In.

Hi,
I'm trying to follow Dave's instructions for building fst-1.6
http://www.djcj.org/LAU/quicktoots/toots/vst-plugins/
at the section called "Building and Installing the fst System" on my
Gentoo laptop. Here's wht I'm doing:
flash VST $ tar xvfz fst-1.6.tar.gz
flash VST $ cd fst-1.6
flash fst-1.6 $ mkdir vst
flash fst-1.6 $ cd vst
flash vst $ cp /home/mark/vstsdk/vstsdk2.3/source/common/aeffectx.h .
flash vst $ cp /home/mark/vstsdk/vstsdk2.3/source/common/AEffect.h .
flash vst $ cd ..
flash fst-1.6 $ ./fixheaders
sed: can't read aeffectx.h: No such file or directory
flash fst-1.6 $ cd vst/
flash vst $ ../fixheaders
flash vst $ cd ..
flash fst-1.6 $ ./autogen.sh
flash fst-1.6 $ ./configure

gcc -o fstconfig fstconfig.o -L. -lfst

flash fst-1.6 $ su -

./mkinstalldirs: ./mkinstalldirs: No such file or directory
make: *** [install-pkgconfigDATA] Error 127

Can anyone tell what I'm doing wrong here?
There is the one mistake in the instructions on the QuickToot page where
it seems to tell me to run fixheaders from the wrong place, but I
haven't figured out how to get past this.
I was able to build fst-1.5 quite awhile agio but of course have
forgotten the trick.
Thanks,
Mark
Oh yeah... Don't think of committing lightly, yesterday I tested it out
on a machine and managed to lose the ability to boot into Windows. And
in the end I couldn't even boot into Yoper as there was no option to
make a boot disk and making one manually also failed.
It's install process is very nasty and unintuitive, that part definitely
needs a lot of work.
I can't say about the rest because I haven't gotten that far yet!

what about soft synthesizer sampler automation?
this is a very important point in my opinion,
controlling filters via lfo is not the best way to do
that all the time ... automating knob movements gives
a hell lot more of control so which are the ways to do
this ???
midi cc (continous controllers) ??? in that case
anybody has a map of the controllers for some synths
(ZynAddSubFX for example ) ...?
is it possible to draw automation curves directly
inside sequencers like rosegarden which support any
kind of softsynth plugins like dssi ???
how do you guys get that automation stuff done??
ivan.

hi, a question about specimen:
Pete:
ive been working with your sampler and would like to
draw automation curves from rosegarden in order to
make filter sweeps in specific points of my song,
which is very difficult to sync with lfos... so
parameter automation comes handy in that situations...
so, does specimen respond to midi cc parameters for
controlling the filter cutoff for example ?
also, youve been working on specimens GUI and
routing??
the independent outputs is great!!! so you can add
reverb to snare or claps without disturbing the mr
Bassdrum...
and about the GUI: it would be great if you could
change those parameter number boxes with sliders or
knobs... in fact specimen is the first sampler with
"number" boxes ive seen, i was very used to classic
circular knobs... though thats not a big issue ...
and which is the best way to record specimens audio
output... so i can render the wav audio and edit with
ardour...
thanx.
ivan.

Hello
I am hoping someone can help me with my awe64. I would like to use the
on-board reverb and chorus that the sound card has but I am unable to figure
out how to do this.
I have installed awesfx-0.5.0d, am using ALSA 1.0.6 on a redhat 8.0 machine.
I can load sound fonts fine using sfxload but the -r & -c options, aweset &
setfx don't seem to do anything.
Thanks for any help,
Paul
Hi,
recently I bought a Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB for my Thinkpad R32 (has an
Intel 82801CA-ICH3 onboard). The Intel is card 0, the Terratec card 1. I
have no problems playing some MP3s with xmms or "alsaplayer -d hw:1 -d
1024" (although I don't know why I have to use "-f 1024", I just played
with the parameters) over the Terratec. But whenever I play through jack
the sound begins to crackle, which is really annoying.
Here are my module configurations:
,----
| alias char-major-116 snd
| alias char-major-14 soundcore
|
| options snd major=116 cards_limit=4
|
| # intel8x0
| alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
| alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
| alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
| alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
| alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
|
| # terratec aureon
| alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
| alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
| alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss
| options snd-usb-audio vid=0x0ccd index=1
|
| alias /dev/dsp* snd-pcm-oss
|
| alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
| alias snd-card-1 snd-usb-audio
| alias snd-card-2 snd-virmidi
| alias snd-card-3 snd-usb-audio
|
| alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
| alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1

BTW, I have no crackling sound using jack with the Intel. Hopefully
someone can help me with my problem.
