Hi, just for fun and for learning the system, I wanted to write a small script which automatically configures any soundcards (similar to alsaconf). Based on PCI, I wanted to get all vendor and card IDs and modprobe each ALSA module to each card found and check the result. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be that easy. Could anyone confirm, that I cannot load a module to a certain PCI card? Furthermore, modprobe does not give any error when probing a module for a card I do not have. And I found no way to get backwards the card ID for a loaded module :( . Does anyone know a way how I can find out which cards are in the system and which module fits to it? Any wee small hint is very welcome. Best regards ce

Interesting. So that one is responding past 20 kHz? What program are you using? You can't just connect the output back to the input and do the test that way? The only thing that would then be a problem would be the parametric sliders on the hand-drawn EQ. I think you can make those meter widgets work with the standard GTK accessibility stuff (of course, I don't know how ;) I can probably figure out some keyboard shortcuts for moving and changing the parametric sliders. Touch a battery. Feel anything? This could be much less current than that. Yes, you can certainly get shocked by a poorly grounded sound system, because the strings are connected to the guitar's "ground". But this wouldn't be any worse for risk.

This is a cute applet. Now for the next step: MagicBaton for Linux! This is somebody's trademark so call it Raton-Conductor. MagicBaton was a MIDI conduction program for Windows 9*, marketed as a game, from Japan. One used the mouse to actually conduct MIDI playback. Not as easy as it sounds, even with the in-the-air gyro-mouse I bought for this purpose. I saw potential in this, however, and suggested a more serious program. Apparently, there is one in Japan. One correspondant on their site actually used the program for choir rehearsals. So how would Raton-Conductor work? Again, not as simple as it sounds. Minimally, one would move the mouse in a ecliptic (or circular) motion (as suggested by MagicBaton's instructions for beginners). The size of the vertical diameter (or average diameter) would be the volume/expression and tempo or time-codes set by the change in vertical direction from down to up. Real conducting patterns are more complex but these two principals would more or less remain.

[linux-audio-user] Downloadable archive of the list?

The archive at eca.cx is good but it takes a lot of time to read trough or to search in. [linux-audio-user] MuSE or Glame Bandpass Analog Filter

sorry, In fact I wanted to post this on the LAU list... After having struggle a lot in order to make ecasound and ardour working on my Gentoo (Christopher is it working well with your's ?) I have decided to use another strategy to setup my Dub Soundsystem. I have choosen : always TerminatorX (Tx) to play the tracks and MuSE 0.7.1 to do the rest. The problem is that MuSE does a strange thing. Let me explain : I have 2 stereo tracks track 1 connected to Tx without effect track 2 connected to Tx with the Glame Bandpass Analog Filter So, if I activate the plugin of the track 2 the track 1 looks mono and I can hear that the effect is also acting on it. is this a bug in MuSE or it is the Glame Bandpass Analog Filter to claim the fault ? [linux-audio-user] Advice Saxophone Music

Gidday everyone. This is not a Linux topic but I'm sure there must be some saxophonists amongst you. I need to get some more intermediate level Saxophone music for teaching purposes. I've got some good James Rae books and have been getting the best stuff out of Fake books but good music is hard to come by. Very few sax players want to learn classical and lots of the jazz stuff gets hard pretty quick. Any advice for books? Heck, even throw me the name of a good theme tune so that I can write it out. I always like using the Indianna Jones theme. Cheers.
