Hi all
Can anyone recommend a very high-quality realtime analyzer? (linux)
I'm hoping for something with 64 or 128 bands minimum, with a phase display,
peak indicators...normal stuff! ;)
eXtace is very close but unfortunately not jack compatible, and not likely to
be anytime soon...
Thanks!
Hi guys,
I'm experimenting a strange problem with FC1 PlanetCCRMA distro and a
Terratec EWS88D card (ICE1712 driver): everything seems to run fine, but
when I switch master clock to s/pdif input (to sync the soundcard to
incoming s/pdif datas from a cd player) the s/pdif output is muted.
If I switch back to lets say 44100Hz I can hear sound coming back from
s/pdif output.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve the problem?
Thanks!
Michele
Hi
One of my friends has gotten quite interrested in my linuxbased csound
setup, but after talking a bit I figured I'd rather start him up with
something more "easy". He've only done some mild tweaking of presets in
wavetable synths. He's a bit impatient, I think he would rather prefer
to "just play", although he has some interrest in shaping the sounds.
He's running osX (G4 laptop, 1.5Ghz or so), and would like something
open source that will:
* play samples, stuff like piano, rhodes
* do descent hammond, pref with leslie simulation
* a few synth sounds (pad, lead) here and there
* runs under osX
* is OSS
* can be controlled from logic
* can be used in realtime, controlled by keyboards
I think it would be best for him if it was one package, since this gives
him less to learn. I think it should be gui-based to some extend
although I didn't discuss that with him.
I promissed him to ask around here, so here goes: Is such a thing
available??? Or would you recommend other directions that I was thinging of?

How do you select a range from say 1:56:00 to 2:37:00 in ardour? The
best I can find to do is set your tool to range and try to select the
right region. There has to be a better, more accurate way but I can't
find it.
Thanks
Anyone been able to use Skype with Alsa apps? When I try to start
Jack-Rack with Skype running Jack-Rack comes back with an error:
===
Could not open ALSA sequencer, aborting
No such file or directory
Make sure you have configure ALSA properly and that
/proc/asound/seq/clients exists and contains relevant devices.

Qjackctl also comes back with an error that it can't open ALSA sequencer
as a client.
I traced it down to Skype. When I tried: alsasound stop (during or after
stopping Skype,) I received:

Even after I quit Skype, Qjackctl won't start at all.
One time, when I found the Skype bkg process, I killed it and it made
everything work. But, I could only find it once! Strange.
In the Hand/Headsets settings (options) the "Audio devices" are devices
on my PC: /dev/dsp. But the sequencer is /dev/snd/seq.
Anyway, Skype has been handy for me for remote session directing (better
than a phone, and not all studios have ISDN.) If I could get it to work
on Linux (rather than windows) I would be much happier.

Is it possible to record the output from XMMS with ardour?
I imagined this could be done via jack and found a jack output plugin
for xmms but I can't get ardour to see this as an input. What should I
try?
TiA,
Steve.
Hi all!
I wonder. I once had a csound .orc+example score for a model/immitation of a
soprano human voice. Unfortunately I lost it. Yet now I need it urgently for a
composition of mine. Can anyone help me? Point me to the correct location on
the net or mail it as an attachment?
I looked through the usual places: csound.com and bath... No success. I
remember that I got it by browsing through Dave's personal csound-links page,
but it seems to be gone.
Kindest regards
Julien

Gscore 0.0.9 is out!
About Gscore
============
Gscore is a musical score editor, focused on the ease of use and clean
interface.
It also gives a framework to read and write scores you wrote with other
software.
It currently works with the abc file format, as a plugin, but other are
in progress.
What is new with this release ?
===============================
* chords
* abc import
* notes inserting
* improved score creation and layout
Dependencies
============
- libglade >= 2.0
- gtk+ >= 2.6
- libabcp (to get the abc plugin working): http://abcp.sf.net
Known Issues
============
Some people have trouble getting abcp compiled on their system.
If you are a debian user, please download the packages provided by
Jerome Marrec at
the following url:
http://www.10pouces.org/download/debian/
I did not have time to clean the Makefile from the abcp sources. I will
provide instructions
latter.

I started a Wiki page again as in the years before:
http://footils.org/cms/pydiddy/wiki/GetToLac2005
It's like a message board, but without messages: Everyone edits the
same page so please be nice.
Feel free to leave contact data there, either if you look for a ride
or if you can offer one.
This of course not only applies to Berlin visitors. ;)
Ciao

Greetings to the Audio-User list. I'm mainly using FC1 & FC2. Music apps from
planetccrma. Soundcard is Audigy2 soundblaster using the emu10k1 driver. Alsa
I think is now 1.0.9.
I have awesfx installed and can install the soundfont from my Audigy card ok
from the CLI. I can also start Rosegarden which I have configured to load the
sound font from its path to /home/user/ <soundfont> and the font loads ok. If
I want to use Kmid I can either load the soundfont on the CLI or start and
then stop Rosegarden before opening Kmid to play a .midi file. Ideally, I'd
like the sound font to be loaded at boot-up. Anyone got any suggestions? It's
no big deal to load it each time you boot, but would be nicer if would
install automatically when you bootup. The soundfont is in /home/user.
Sfxload is in /usr/bin. "You can load a default Sound Font Bank
automatically with installing
the module. Just append a line like
post-install sound /usr/bin/sfxload synthgm.sbk
to your /etc/conf.modules file."
That bit in the quotes was from Marcus Brinkmanns HOW-TO but is a bit
old,using kernel 2.0. Anyone who's got sfxload to auto load a soundfont
please reply. Nigel.
