Howdies
I've started looking at LinuxSampler. I'm googling for good free solo
string (violin & cello) samples, but no luck so far. Any hints appreciated.
thanks

Hi list,
My name is Ricardo Lobo, and I belong to a portuguese cultural NGO,
called Audiência Zero. We are preparing 7 workshops on creative
technology using only free software, we'll be using blender, gimp,
inkscape, ardour, rosegarden, etc, etc...
The site is in portuguese http://www.audienciazero.org/cct , I know only
a few of you can understand portuguese.
The Free Audio Workshop is scheduled for december. I'm open to
suggestions about what would you like to see in a workshop like that.
thanks,
Lobo
Hello, List
Until recently I have been running SUSE 9.3 x86_64 with a self-compiled
realtime kernel (using the realtime-lsm). I have now upgraded to openSUSE
10.2 because I was having difficulties installing the latest versions of
certain applications.
I'm very happy with the distribution generally, but I'd now like to get my
audio performance back to what it was. Via the installation and set-up forum
at jacklab, I have been directed to realtime kernel, kernel-source and PAM
packages …

Have downloaded the packages but have not yet installed them. Unfortunately
the thread dried up before it answered my supplementary questions.
Firstly I noticed that the kernel and kernel-source packages have different
release numbers. Does this matter? I need to compile the nvidia driver to
get X back after the install.
kernel-rt-2.6.19.1-4.1.x86_64.rpm
kernel-source-2.6.19.1-3.1.x86_64.rpm
The other point I'm confused on is how to safely install the RPM. Is it
really as simple as rpm -Uvh or are there other steps. Does installing the
new kernel wipe out the old one, or will it install alongside the default
one?

Sorry for the cross-posting but it is appropriate here.
... Or compile the kernel appropriately.
Question is: How does ticklessness effect audio? Realtime-preemptive kernels?
Other multimedia?

Dear mailing list users,
As some of you might have noticed, the lists on linuxaudio.org have
gone silent for two whole days. This incident was due to a crash of
the mailman process. The exact causes remain as of yet unknown, but
will be investigated.
Please accept our apologies for this disturbance.
Kindest regards,

But how do you control positionning in space of each instrument..I mean, you
can apply reverbs and delays..but the spatial parameter and sound direction?

I've been trying to figure out how to get a particular vocal effect
using Linux tools, not that I even know how to get the sound with any
tools. About 8-9 seconds in to the clip below a vocal is introduced
which has the sound I'm looking for.
http://www.doink.com/lau/spocks_beard-day_for_night-04-the_distance_to_the_…
How do I get that sound? I have 5 very good singers at my disposal,
if it turns out to be a vocal styling thing. But, I think there's
more going on than vocal style. It …
[View More]sounds like there's some sort of
envelope on that vocal track.
Thanks....
FWIW, the entire CD from which I snipped this section is very very
good in terms of musicianship & production. After that it's personal
taste, and they're among my favorite bands.
