Hi everyone,
I'm curious about the Cherrypal Africa netbook:
http://www.cherrypal.com/products.php
For $99, it looks like a great kick-around netbook for console-only
applications. However, it is running a (forgive me if my terms are a
bit off) MIPS Xburst processor. If I wanted to use this is a
text-only synth module or a midi sequencing device, it would need to
run jack. Is this even possible on this architecture?

Hello everyone, it's the first time I send a message to this list.
I would like to ask for suggestions for a project I'm about to start.
For a musical I need to record some audio tracks of orchestral
music (at least one, of about 50 sec.). Once I would have used
Finale+GPO for this but now I will try the Linux way instead.
The most important program I'm looking for is a sequencer able to handle
notation (I never worked on piano roll) and able to control easily note
velocity (to make the orchestra sound realistic).
For this pourpose I evaluated Rosegarden and Musescore, what do you
think about them? Is there something better out there?
To get the orchestral instruments I was thinking to LinuxSampler (I
already have all the sampled notes in wavs). Also here, do you think
there could be a better approach?
Many thanks.

>And let me add that psychoacoustics is not the same as
>subjectivism -
you are correct in that they are not the same
but psychoacoustics does study the _subjective_ human perception of auditory phenomena
not the _objective_ human perception of auditory phenomena
and while there are acoustic phenomena common to all healthy hearing/neurology which can be measured
you are glossing over two factors involved in psychoacoustics which render most scientific generalization sort of dicey: emotional state and cultural bias
and anyway my post was referring to the claim that if a property of a mix can't be scientifically measured then it doesn't exist -- which we all know is poppycock because 'music mastering' is NOT a science - it is pure sonic voodoo
I'm trying to find a vst plugin (ideally native, but anything that'll run
realtime with hacks works if there isn't a better solution) that has pro
quality nature sounds, rain, thunder, running water, birds, wind.
So far I found sounds of nature, which is a widows vst:

Thanks for any leads,

yeah well that quite nicely works for machines
but with human sensory systems you'll find they are quite non-linear
and hence the field of psycho-acoustics
which can be interpreted as voodoo by some
Dear fellow FOSS/Pd/Linux audio enthusiasts,
It is my pleasure to announce the upcoming April 17th (Saturday) spring L2Ork / DISIS event that will feature the debut of the Boys & Girls Club of Roanoke, VA satellite laptop orchestra, as well as several guest artists, including:
Ron Coulter (SIUC, percussion, composition, computer music)
Mark Engebretson (UNCG, composition, computer music, saxophone), and
Matthew Burtner (UVA, composition, computer music, saxophone)
The evening event will be split into:
. 7pm children's showcase designed primarily with children and parents in mind, and
. 8pm benefit concert of experimental music. Funds raised at this event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Roanoke, VA, a non-profit organization that offers critical afterschool programs for children. Apart from L2Ork numbers, the 8pm program will also offer compositions involving innovative creative technologies, including musical robots.
The admission to both events is free.

Hey Hey Hey!
I'm currently making a rather big grand piano sample library. It is a
Yamaha C5 recorded with 2 AKG C414 in an AB position about 10cm above
the strings at 24bit48khz. It is downsampled to 16bit44.1khz because
gigedit couldn't save files larger than 2gb. It's sampled in minor
thirds with 17 velocity layers (some only 16 due to a nasty head ache
when I recorded)
I'd like to have some feedback and have two questions answered. I've
posted the same question on the linuxsampler forum but that doesn't seem
to be the most active place in the world so I'll make a post here too.
The question: Can I make release samples to be played even if the
sustain pedal is pressed?
The other question: How should I distribute it? I was thinking something
like a torrent would be the most effective. I only got 512kbps up and
It's about 1.5gb worth of .gig file
The Demo: http://j.imagehost.org/download/0912/GrandPianoUpdatedDemo
Played by Alfonso Gugliucci, User PianistItaliano on youtube.
