I am loading notifications KDE Control Center module and trying to test some sound notifications. Playback starts, but aborts earlier than quater of second. Neither phonon kcm module, nor jack daemon didn't give any significant error messages.
kcmshell4 kcmphonon: "jack_client_new: deprecated"
jack 1.9.5. xine 1.16.3 with jack support from PPA "Until jack included in main" or like.
P.S. Just found some words about gstreamer-jack: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-554457.html
Hello. I'd like to take a stab at spying the protocol between the
Mackie C4 and the Mackie "C4 Commander" control software.
The plan is to put my Linux laptop between a Winmac running C4
Commander and the C4, start a MIDI capture and try to upload a
known .c4i layout to the C4.

I need a small, light, 2-input, 2-output MIDI USB interface. Does
anyone have experience with the ESI RoMI/O II ?

Hi all,
I just finished compiling the latest version of FST, downloaded it via
GIT. I download the Hurdy Gurdy (LE) plugin from
http://soundbytes.de/HurdyGurdy/ and now I would like to use it of
course.
I started QJackCTL (0.3.6), and from this GUI I started Jackd (0.118).
Next I started the .DLL file by using ./fst.exe, the VST starts with
some additional buttons in the upside.
Finally I started MusE (1.01). The problem is that the VST appears in
Jack in the Audio tab and Midi tab, but in MusE it is not selectable in
the "Midi Device" list.

Does anybody know how I should connect to the VST from MusE? When I use
something like Hydrogen, it works fine (Hydrogen MIDI in appears in the
list).
Thanks!
Pieter
PS: I use Ubuntu Karmic (9.10), with a RT kernel (2.6.31-9-rt). My
system is a Lenovo T60:
CPU: Genuine Intel, Dual Core, T2400 @ 1.83 GHz.
Memory: 1496 MiB
Swap: 972 MiB
SoundCard: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio
Controller (rev 02)

Hello,
I forgot to mention that I fixed some initialization issue with this ALSA 2 Jack bridge. Haven't experienced any issue with its present configuration. If someone would like to report issues, let's continue using this discussion thread.
Cheers!
J.
The MIDI howto on tldp.org hasn't been updated in about 8 years.
Is it still worth reading ? Are there any more up to date
equivalents on the net ?

This is a bit off-topic but since video editors were mentioned here
recently, thought this might be of interest to some:

Just tried it on my little synthesizer effects laptop (758MB, 2.8GHz
Celeron, Intel video hardware), where the installed ArtistX .6 (based on
Ubuntu Studio 8.04), and both Puredyne and newer versions of ArtistX
work fine from live CD/DVD.
I just downloaded and burned a KXStudio DVD. It tests out fine when I
boot from it and use the test media option, but it hangs with a black
blank screen when I try to run it from DVD without installing.
I burned another copy, it also verifies fine, and also hangs when trying
to run from DVD.
Guess it isn't quite ready yet. No way to report bugs at the
kxstudio.sourceforge.net site, either, so will let author know along
with this email.

Hi all,
It looks like the phasex site is down again (no dns entry). I managed to
find a copy of a recent release from the links2linux archives, which I
have posted on my own site in case anyone else is wanting to install
this (really nice) softsynth.

That's just fine. For some reason my gmail stopped sending me my own
messages to mailinglists. But at least now I know this one got through :-)
