Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that I also just experienced this exact
issue with Ardour and a Cakewalk (Roland) UA-25 EX card.. Thanks to
your messages, I gave a try to jackd v1 and could finally export my
project. I don't know if it can be related, but that did not ever
happen with Kubuntu 11.10 and earlier versions (I now run Kubuntu
12.04).
Regards,
Loris
Jack_export is a simple command line app I've been using to do multichannel
exports from Ardour2 sessions. Of course A3 provides this OOTB, but I will
maintain jack_export to provide (if necessary) formats and options that A3
doesn't or won't support.
This release does not include resampling, the sample rate of the exported
file will be the current Jack sample rate.
To use, proceed as follows:
1. (Optional) In Ardour, create a bus (not a track) named 'export', and
containing all the signals you want to export. You can skip this step,
in that case you'll have to connect Ardour outputs to jack_export inputs
manually after step 2.
2. Run jack_export. See --help for options. The --chan option is mandatory.
E.g.
jack_export --chan 16 my16channelfile.wav
Jack_export will connect to the 'export' bus if it exists, and print
Ready ...
If you did not create an 'export' bus in Ardour, now connect Ardour
outputs to jack_export inputs manually.
3. Do a normal export in Ardour, using some dummy name for the exported
file. As soon as Jack goes into freewheeling mode, jack_export will
print
Recording ...
When the export terminates, jack_export will print a completion message
reporting the number of seconds recorded.

Hello,
Here is the use-case. Sending audio from one application to be processed
by another jack client before being sent back, the processed signal
being mixed back in, possibly with a copy of itself. How would one go
about estimating by how much the processed signal was delayed?
1) JACK base latency:
My understanding is that JACK will always introduce a latency of
buffer_size*period_size*nperiods, is that correct? If the signal is
sent, processed, then sent back, the acquired delay would at least be
twice the nominal jack latency, right?
- Problem: On the practical side, how could we calculate the base
latency using available jack utilities? There's jack_bufsize and
jack_samplerate, but no way to find the number of periods, I think.
2) Latency of the processing client.
That would depend largely on the client, I guess. The README.CONFIG for
jconvolver states that setting the partition number to be equal to the
jack period size would result in zero latency, for example...
Any insight in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
S.M.

Hi!
I'm a student of Audio Engineering in Croatia, and my BSc thesis is an implementation of 16-Channel Ambisonics system under Linux (Ubuntu).
For this project, I have studied several papers and instructions, and for now, I have installed JACK, Ambdec, AMB plugins and Ardour. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to actually try the whole thing because I'm still waiting for my RME Raydat order to go through.
My questions: do you know how can I find some Ambdec 16-channel presets? I have found several presets in Ambdec directory, but none of them are for 16 speakers, so I could really use some help...
Also, I have to say I'm confused with the whole AMB plugins thing (I have read papers where people claim they use both AMB plugins and Ambdec during Ambisonics reproduction). What is their purpose? Are they just "routing" the signals to their corresponding places in Ambdec decoding matrix or do they become redundant if you use Ambdec?
Thanks,
Ivan
Hi list,
I'm wondering if someone familiar with this plugin can help me
find settings that will provide equal channel delay with no
feedback and no change in volume level.
The context is that I'm working on latency compensation
for Nama, and need a suitable delay effect.
I tried emailing the plugin author, Steve Harris, however
mail to his published address was returned.
Please let me know if you're aware of any other LADSPA plugin
that can provide this behavior.
Thanks,

hi list,
this is one of my busiest times of the year for gigging; I'm usually playing at least once a week, and sometimes multiple times a week. there are a couple of things I'm frustrated about:
* my song lists are all on paper. they have no information about the song at all. it would be nice to be able to sort by key, genre (rock, pop, r&b, motown, etc.). it would be nice if calling up the song called up the chord chart, which brings me to my next point…
* I looked through many presentation softwares, chord chart management, etc. they all seem focused on the church crowd. I need something *simple*. I choose a song, and the chart that I have available for it (either text or pdf or whatever) is displayed in a split window.
ok, that's what I want, and no one gets what they want. :) so, I'm open to any and all ideas. what do you use? do you manage your set lists with linux? chord charts? I tried the whole "thinking outside the box" and looked for maybe some file management software, but I got overwhelmed quickly. any and all ideas are welcome.
thanks list!

A new update of Mixer4 is out:
www.acousticrefuge.com/mixer4.htm
Coding has continued at a fast pace and has brought the collection of
features to a level where I plan to slow down on coding for awhile...or
until an irresistable idea strikes :) I would like to focus my time on
helping new users.
The new features have mastering in mind. 16 bit dithered .wav file
output is now supported instead of just 24 bit. There is now an
average RMS output, a zero attack limiter, a more traditional RMS
sensing compressor with adjustable RMS window, high and low shelving
EQ's, and ability to trim mix file start and endings.
Other work includes:
Peak outputs saved for each channel
Automatic backup of mix settings and statistics with the name of the mix
attached.
Added makeup gain stage after effects processing
Volume ramps automatically adjusted to song length if too long.
Bug fix on master trim function if used out of range
Bug fix on least significant bit of output file.
Updated the Fader Generator utility to setup all current effects commands.
Better quick start guide
Best to all,
Grekim
Hi everyone,
I'm in San Francisco/Palo Alto for two months and I was wondering if
there was some linux audio musicians around here who would like to have
a beer or jam ...
I went to the San Francisco electronic musicians meetup two days ago,
but there were mostly mac/protools/ableton guys ...

This is a a general audio question and perhaps a strange/funny one.
Recently I got some Ozric Tentacles more or less relatively recent CDs
which has at times extremely low and powerful bass sounds. Caught me
off guard in the car as the car's speakers went booming. And then it
happened a few other times. Now, when I play 'regular' CDs that I used
to play before, I notice that I have to lower the bass by one notch,
compared to the usual setting, as it is more powerful than it used to
be. Or is it just some problem with my perception/eras ? Is it
possible at all that driving very low bass sounds at a fairly high
volume for small amounts of time 'flexes' some speaker membrane and
make them play bass sounds better afterwards ?
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me remove an irritating behaviour of
pure data which I've noticed lately. When running qjackctl, and selecting
'alsa midi' in pd to initialize its
it connects its output to all other midi inputs, and its input to all other
midi outputs (including through-midi on both sides, meaning it is
essentially sending midi to itself, as well as everything else.) This is
mildly irritating during normal usage, but is now becoming outright
unmanageable, as I am currently trying to write some scripts to
automatically set up my audio environment for live performance (including
midi and jack audio connections).
Can anyone suggest a way to supress this behaviour? Thanks.
n.b. Cross-posted this because I believe the subject concerns both lists.
